As spring sports began, our school’s golf team prepared for a season filled with new opportunities and new faces. This year’s roster looked a little different from past seasons, as many seniors have joined the team for the first time. With many new players stepping onto the course with varying skill levels, the team focused on reliability and on bringing home a championship.
While it is uncommon for seniors to begin playing for the school so late in their high school careers, these five new senior players saw an opportunity to represent the Beests for one last time. Dylan, a senior, shared that “I joined because I thought it would be a fun way to hang out with friends and improve my skills.”
With the influx of seniors came new team managers committed to supporting players throughout the season in various ways. One team manager explained their motivation, saying in anonymity, “I chose to become the team manager for golf because I wanted to help rebuild a community that lost a massive number of its participants from the previous school year.”
While this team, under head coach Jonathan Bagg, faced tough competition in the PVAC through nine matches, they were invited to the Championship match, where they went out on a swing and finished 4th. Their final match of the season is on April 8th at 3 pm at Northwest Golf Course.
